Radiological Manifestation of Tuberculosis of the Spine


Abstract
The classical roentgenographic features of truberculosis of the spine (narrowing of the intervertebral space, collpase of the vertebral bodies, with or without the shadow of a cold abscess) presents a specific picture of the actual pathological process.
80 cases of spinal tuberculosis, proved at Ewha Womans University Hospital during the periods from Jan. 1973 through Dec. 1977, were studied and analysed.
The following results were obtained:
1. The age preference was under 10 years old (29%).
2. The most frequent site of inovlvement of spinal tuberculosis was thoracic spine (36%). The next was lumber (32%).
3. The incidence of lytic type was 60%, mixed type was 28%, and sclerotic type was 13%, respectively.
4. The typical radiologic finding were: narrowings of intervertebral space (100%), collapse of vertebral body (65%), and cold abscess (59%).
